PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT for Port Moresby Residents!

The National Capital District Commission reminds all city residents to strictly follow key public health and sanitation laws to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment for everyone.

Breaching these regulations poses a serious public health risk. Let's work together to keep our city clean!

Key Public Health Laws to Remember

1. Animal Control (Public Health (Sanitation & General) Regulation – Chapter 226, Section 5):

It is PROHIBITED to breed or keep animals and birds other than a cat or a dog within residential premises without official approval.

Why? Uncontrolled animal breeding leads to environmental pollution and the spread of diseases.

2. Cleanliness of Premises (Regulation Section 9 (1–3)):

All occupiers must keep their premises clean and free from stagnant water, sewage, rubbish, and other waste.

Report any public health issues to NCDC Health or contact Water PNG for water and sewerage issues.

3. Illegal Discharge of Wastewater & Sewage (Public Health (Sewerage) Regulation – Chapter 226, Sections 16, 17, 18):

All sewered properties must only discharge waste into the approved sewerage system.

It is ILLEGAL to dispose of wastewater or sewage into city drains, streets, or open spaces.

The Commission urge everyone to cooperate and report those who breach these public health requirements to NCDC Health Services.

All information will be kept strictly confidential.
