From Waste To Wealth: Building A Clean Safe And Livable Port Moresby Through Shenzhen Partnership
National Capital District Commission delegation led by NCD Governor Powes Parkop have concluded a landmark second day of their visit in Shenzhen, securing strategic commitments that align with the vision of a Clean, Safe, Healthy, Livable, and Productive Port Moresby.
This second day was eventful and successful for the delegation.
They visited the world class Waste to Energy facilities in Shenzhen owned and operated by Shenzhen Energies; the Steel Digital Energy Manufacturing Plant owned operated by China Steel Construction Engineering Corporation and ended the day having a high level meeting with with Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress Mr. Jiang Yuyang and Members of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and Business Community.
Apart from the high level discussions centred around the agendas for this visit, Governor Parkop confirmed that they also agreed to set up an office in Shenzhen to promote the cooperation between our respective cities especially in the areads of tourism, investment, education, sports and business generally.
This was an offer made by Shenzhen Municipal Government to Port Moresby in 2016 when the sister city agreement was initially signed, but had not been taken up by NCDC until now.
"With the increased collaboration and expansion of business and investment between the two cities, it was agreed that this capacity be set up immediately," Governor Parkop said.

From Butuka Academy, to China Southern Airlines direct flights to Port Moresby from Guangzhou, to China Steel Construction Engineering Corporation migrating from Butuka Academy to become the major contractor for Hilton Hotel and Paga Hill Paradise Twin Towers at Paga Hill.
These shows the growth and expansion of the relationship between the two cities.
Governor Parkop expressed that, with Shenzhen Energies coming on board with the Waste to Energy Project, the potential for the relationship with Shenzhen is immense.
This year would be the 50th anniversary of PNG China diplomatic Relationship and 10 years of Shenzhen Port Moresby sister city relationship and in November Shenzhen would host APEC Summit, a great platform to showcase and advance Port Moresby’s growing relationship.
Today on their third day, they will have final discussions with Shenzhen Energies on the Waste to Energy Power Plant and other similar energy initiatives.
"We will also have discussions with China Steel Construction on the three new provincial markets, hospital, electric vehicles especially the buses and other initiatives mutual to all Parties," Governor Parkop said.
