SIXTH NCDC BOARD MEMBER SWORN-IN HIGHLIGHTS MILESTONE

PORT MORESBY: The sixth member of the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) Board was sworn in this morning at the City Hall, setting the stage for transformative governance and inclusive development.

Following the dismissal of his murder charges by the National Court on Wednesday 26th, 2023, Moresby North-West MP, Hon. Lohia Boe Samuel joined his fellow board commissioners who were sworn in earlier on July 14th.

They comprise of Chairman and NCD Governor, Hon. Powes Parkop, Deputy Governor Hon. Dadi Toka Jnr, Moresby South MP, Hon. Justin Tkatchenko, Moresby North-East MP, Hon. John Kaupa, and Central Provincial Administrator Francis Koaba.

The swearing-in ceremony today was witnessed by the NCDC Directors led by the City Manager, Ravu Frank.

Welcoming him to the board, City Manager congratulated the member for winning his court case.

“As the city administrator, I am pleased to be working with the NCDC Board to deliver much-needed services to the people of NCD and Motu Koita,” he said.

Mr Frank said the board’s displacement in December 2021 through an amendment to the NCDC Act has handicapped the city’s governance and service delivery to the city.

He described the re-establishment of the board this month as dawn of a new era to deliver a city that is safe, clean, healthy, planned and liveable.

The Moresby North-West MP, applauded the city residents, especially his constituents, for their patience when he was going through the court process to have cleared himself.

“I am looking forward to serving the city,” he said.

Mr Samuel also commended NCD Governor, NCDC Board and management for their patience too.

The board's establishment follows the partial amendment to the NCDC Act.

Governor Parkop earlier clarified that the displacement of the board was not his doing, expressing concerns about the amendment's implications for the city and entire the nation.
