NCDC Staff Adopt Adaptive Leadership To Modernize Port Moresby Municipal Services
National Capital District Commission Line Managers, senior officers including the Director for the Compliance Directorate have successfully completed a week of specialized leadership training by key, highly qualified technical professionals from the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance.
This strategic investment by NCDC is designed to dramatically enhance staff leadership roles and decision-making capabilities, ensuring the delivery of reliable, high-quality municipal services to city residents.
The curriculum taught during the training is focused intensely on Adaptive Leadership, a critical contemporary concept stressing continuous adaptation.
This style is essential for tackling the NCDC's complex adaptive challenges, problems in urban service delivery that cannot be solved using traditional management policies or processes.
The training equips these line managers, senior officers and Director to employ actions that disrupt the existing state of affairs, especially the social and political issues, in order to inspire innovation and change, requiring resilience and an inquiring mind.
A key takeaway emphasized the necessity to unlearn and relearn to maintain currency and remain relevant.
By fostering balcony vision, the capacity to see problems from a helicopter view, beyond departmental silos, NCDC staff can make more informed, holistic decisions.
This directly translates into faster, more reliable resolutions for city issues, from waste management to infrastructure planning, significantly boosting public trust and service excellence across Port Moresby.
Speaking on behalf of NCDC staff, Director Compliance Ms. Amanda Binoka thanked the SILAG Management and professional trainers for the skills and knowledge gain during the week training.
Deputy City Manager Engineering and Regulatory Services Mr. Wavala Leka encouraged all participants (NCDC staff) to immediately apply the adaptive leadership model in their workplaces.
“This training marks a renewed commitment to exceptional governance and robust decision-making, ensuring residents receive the best municipal service possible, “said Mr. Leka.
