NCD/Central Police Launched Jubilee Celebration Security Operation.

The police cannot do it on their own; we need support from everyone in NCD/Central and others coming into the command to make this celebration a safe and peaceful one. This was the message from NCD/Central Commander Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi and NCD Governor Powes Parkop during the launch of the Jubilee Celebration Security Operation yesterday at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop, while speaking to the police officers on parade, acknowledged their tireless efforts in managing crime in the city and also noted the challenges they face daily in policing the city. He said times have changed, and people are moving into the city in large numbers, which makes it very difficult for them to control. He stated that the only way to manage the movement of people into the city is through the Vacancy Act.

Governor Parkop also added that the city will be hosting lead-up events to the main Jubilee Celebration that will be on the 16th of September. He said the police will be very busy and called on the public to celebrate peacefully because the country will be celebrating 50 years of independence, and we must prove to the world that we are civilized people living in the city.

The commander of NCD/Central, Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi, also challenged his officers to work with pride to prove to the people that the RPNGC is one of the oldest organizations in the country that is here to stay and will continue to serve its people regardless of criticism. He said that with limited manpower, his officers have been hard at work to make sure NCD and Central Province are safe and peaceful.

He also thanked the elected leaders of the two provinces who had been working closely with the police in the past few months, which had seen donations of vehicles and other logistical support that will boost policing in the command.

He also called on business houses that are organizing events in their respective areas to notify the police so that when they patrol around, they can call in to show police presence. He said everyone must work together to make these celebrations meaningful, safe, and peaceful. It will be good to see a peaceful celebration because PNG gained independence on a golden plate, and celebrating peacefully must be the main aim for us all. The police officers will be closely monitored if they misbehave. I want my officers to also reflect on what they have done for the country. If you have done nothing good, please do it now and record it so you will have a story to tell for 51 years and going forward, ACP Turi said.

He also added that the police operation had been launched and that the police would be out in full force to patrol the city and Central Province.
