YOUTHS JOIN NCDC IN TAKING OWNERSHIP OF BOROKO CBD TRANSFORMATION PROJECT

PORT MORESBY: Boroko youths collaborated with the National Capital District Commission in the Boroko Precinct Transformation efforts to continue with cleaning and maintaining the Central Business District last Friday (March 31, 2023).

The youth joined the NCDC Community and Social Services (CSS), Social Services & Sports, Law & Order, Local Level Government, Education, Family & Sexual Violence Action Committee and Markets divisions.

Both the youth and NCDC staff turned up as early as 7am, armed with cleaning tools like spades, brooms, rakes, litter bags and gloves, to thoroughly clean parts of the CBD by weeding, sweeping, removing filthy and smelly waste out of sides of fences and picking up litter.

The Boroko Precinct is a part of the NCDC Amazing Port Moresby Vision 2030, a plan and vision fully supported by the National Government and the Prime Minister, Hon. James Marape, launched last year.

The Boroko Precinct Transformation initiative is only one part of a larger vision to transform Port Moresby, one street at a time.

“Thank you to all staff and the youth for turning up to do the clean-up. It will continue as a new intervention program to transform Boroko Precinct as per the Management and Board’s directive,” said the Executive officer to Director CSS, James Ume.

“We must continue to work together until we achieve our goal of changing this area,” he added and thanked the cleaning contractors for maintaining the cleanliness of the CBD on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, Social Services and Sports Manager, Kila Dick said as public servants, they are committed to keeping the city clean and safe.

“We are in full support of our Governor and management’s decision to help transform the Boroko CBD,” he said.

Waste Management Division Manager, John Navara reiterated similar remarks, thanking everyone for their efforts.

“We hope, our actions will show a good picture; we hope to lead the change. Hopefully, people will see and appreciate this and do the right thing, too, in keeping our city clean, healthy and safe.”
