PLANNED CITY VISION GAINS MOMENTUM

PORT MORESBY: In its bid to make the City become safe, clean, healthy and planned, the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) is cleaning unplanned structures off drainage, road and recreational reserves.

NCDC Officers attached with the Commission’s Compliance Directorate last week served a demolition notice to a property owner (tenant), who is trading his mini-retail and fast food business as Karisma Holdings Limited on Section 73, Allotment 17 at 3-Mile in NCD.

City Manager, Ravu Frank said the business owner (tenant) was advised via a demolition notice to cease trading within a month from the date the notice was served.

The notice stemmed from unauthorized building structure that was constructed at 3-Mile without prior building and physical planning approval.

Its side perimeter boundary fence also encroached onto the part drainage reserve between the property and Port Moresby General Hospital.

In accordance with Section 99 of the Physical Planning Act, property owners, tenants and developers of such unauthorized structures are required to remove the structure and restore the land to its original state.

Mr Frank said the tenant (Karisma Holdings Limited) was given only a month to sell the remaining goods before the demolition takes place.

Failure to comply with this notice is an offence with the penalty fine of up to K4,000 with additional default penalties, said City Manager Mr Frank.
