PORT MORESBY: NCD Governor Hon. Powes Parkop, Total Energies staff, other stakeholders, and local chiefs of Boera village on the outskirts of Port Moresby gathered at Koke Hanua Resort to inaugurate the Mangrove Biodiversity Conservation and Rehabilitation project.

This collaborative effort with Koke Hanua Resort, a family-owned establishment by Ulato Avei, Owner and General Manager, aims to regrow and restock mangroves to enhance resilience against tidal waves and safeguard mangrove species and habitats from human activities.

Governor Parkop, in his address, emphasized that the project exemplifies Total Energies' commitment to protecting the natural environment and addressing climate change challenges.

Expressing gratitude to Total Energies and Koke Hanua Resort for the initiative, Governor Parkop underscored the vital role of preserving the natural environment, which sustains communities for generations and significantly contributes to biodiversity and carbon sequestration.

Governor Parkop commended the local development partnership between Total Energies and Koke Hanua Resort, which not only supports local businesses but also prioritizes environmental conservation.

He called for similar initiatives to be replicated in all other Motuan villages, recognizing the significance of mangroves as major carbon sinks and essential contributors to biodiversity conservation.
