GOVERNOR PARKOP VISITS EDEVU DAM

The NCDC team visited the Edevu Hydropower Project, located on the Brown River approximately 47 minutes Northeast of Port Moresby. The massive project costs K650 million and will generate 54MW of power.

Governor Parkop, accompanied by City Manager Ravu Frank, inspected the project and was very impressed. He applauded the project initiative, a substantial foreign direct investment that will provide a reliable and cost-effective energy supply to NCD and Central Province.

One of the major challenges of NCD has been reliable energy. The Edevu Hydropower Project will cater for an efficient energy supply.

"Port Moresby needs reliable, cheap and constant power supply for domestic needs and, more importantly, to industrialize our city. The economic growth of the nation's capital requires reliable, affordable energy."

"I am extremely happy on behalf of the city residents that this project will is expected to go online in June of this. year. I thank you on behalf of my people for the massive investment and great work being done here."

Transmission lines are under construction to Port Moresby with funding from KCHL. SMEC is also conducting studies to supply Port Moresby with an alternative water supply from the Edevu dam.
