GOVERNOR PARKOP MARKETS AMAZING PORT MORESBY AS AN INVESTMENT HUB TO PACIFIC SUPERFUNDS

PORT MORESBY: NCD Governor Hon. Powes Parkop on Monday night marketed #AmazingPortMoresby’s potential and vision to become the regional city to the chief executive officers of superannuation funds in the Pacific.

Proclaiming itself as the meeting hub, this week #AmazingPortMoresby is hosting CEOs of 20 superannuation funds based in 12 Pacific Island countries, including PNG.

The 2023 Pacific Islands Investment Forum (PIIF) is an annual event that unites the CEOs of superannuation funds across the Pacific.

Initiated in 2008, the forum's objective is to provide a platform for dialogue, support member organisations' educational needs, and promote investment opportunities.

PNG’s biggest super funds, National Superannuation Fund Limited (NASFUND) and Nambawan Super Limited (NSL), are co-hosting the event.

Speaking during a dinner hosted for the delegates at Lamana Hotel on Monday night, Governor Parkop flagged to the fund CEOs that the city envisaged becoming the regional city.

Governor Parkop said the city hoped to contribute to the greater Pacific.

He welcomed everyone to the city.

“I welcome you all to Port Moresby, those of you who are here for the first time, Port Moresby is a welcoming city and the gateway to Papua New Guinea. We want to brand it as a city that belongs to our region, not just PNG. I want you to feel at home. You must know that you are amongst family."

The Governor thanked NASFUND and NSL for hosting the forum in Port Moresby.

“We want to assure you that we are doing all we can to become the regional city. We are investing all our resources and energy towards transforming our city so it can be a truly national capital for us and a regional city, equally a global city,” said Governor Parkop.

Governor Parkop said the city was strategically located to the North and West is Asia, to the South is Australia and New Zealand and to the East and South-East are fellow Pacific Island nations.

He continued that the National Capital District Commission sees the superfunds as strategic partners in achieving and realising this goal.

The Chairman of the PIIF, Pauli Prince Suhren-on behalf of everyone-thanked, the Governor, for hosting the dinner to welcome them.

The forum will end on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
