STUDENTS URGED TO EMBRACE THE BASICS FOR SUCCESS
Students at Boreboa Primary School have been encouraged to focus on mastering the basics to lay a strong foundation for success in life.
National Capital District (NCD) Governor, Hon. Powes Parkop, delivered this message during his keynote address at the school’s Grade 8 graduation ceremony today.
Governor Parkop emphasized the importance of cultivating good attitudes, values, and habits from an early age.
“Success is not complicated. It starts with the basics—respect, discipline, and a commitment to learning,” he told the students. “When you focus on these simple but powerful principles, you will pave the way for a brighter future.”
Addressing the 344 graduating students, he congratulated them on their achievements and expressed hope that they had made the most of their eight years of primary education.
“I am proud of each one of you for reaching this milestone. Use what you’ve learned here as a stepping stone to even greater accomplishments in your education and life,” he said.
Governor Parkop also reminded the students that respecting their teachers, valuing their education, and presenting themselves well are key habits that will help them excel not only in school but in life.
“I commend you all for being so well-dressed today,” he added. “It may seem like a small thing, but it’s the small things done consistently that lead to big success.”
He highlighted the evolving educational landscape in Papua New Guinea, noting that while education opportunities have expanded, competition has also increased. He urged the students to stay focused and work hard to achieve high standards in their education.
Boreboa Primary, one of the largest schools in the nation’s capital with over 3,000 students, is currently operating with facilities that are over 30 years old.
Governor Parkop assured the school community of his support, pledging to assist with infrastructure improvements in the coming year.
“NCDC will partner with the school to construct a new six-in-one classroom based on a standard plan, as well as support the development of an IT lab and housing for teachers,” he announced. “We are committed to creating a better learning environment so that our children can receive the quality education they deserve.”
He ended his speech with an encouraging note for the graduates:
“Education is the key to unlocking your potential. Dream big, work hard, and never stop believing in yourself. The future is in your hands."
