This morning, the Active City Development Program hosted the highly anticipated Redvember Walk, an event that unites the community in solidarity as part of the global movement to commemorate the 20 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women and Girls. The walk, an annual initiative organized by Active City, aims to raise awareness and galvanize action to prevent and eliminate all forms of violence faced by women and girls in Papua New Guinea.

Supported by a coalition of sponsors, including the National Capital District Commission (NCDC), Puma Energy, UN Agencies, Diplomatic Missions, and Civil Society Organizations, the Redvember Walk exemplifies a powerful community-wide response to one of the most pressing issues of our time. Open to all members of the public, the event also welcomed participation from local community-based organizations, creating a vibrant show of unity and shared commitment to ending violence.

Participants gathered early at Sir John Guise Stadium for an energizing morning of solidarity, purpose, and community. With speeches, performances, and advocacy from prominent leaders and advocates, the event underscored the critical need for every individual, community, and organization to play a part in this movement. As they walked through the city, participants carried messages of hope and determination, symbolizing their collective stance against violence and their dedication to fostering a safer, more respectful environment for all.

This annual event serves not only as a rally for awareness but as a powerful reminder of the work still ahead. Through the collaborative efforts of organizations like Active City and their partners, the Redvember Walk continues to inspire change and create impactful conversations around ending gender-based violence in PNG.

Thank you to everyone who joined this morning, including the Governor General HE Sir Bob Dadae. We look forward to the Whitecember walk next month.
