Adventure Park Responds to Tragic Crocodile Incident

Adventure Park confirms that a tragic incident occurred on Saturday, 5 September 2026, during a non-scheduled crocodile feeding demonstration.

During the feeding, a crocodile seized both the chicken being used for feeding and the leg of one of Adventure Park’s senior and highly experienced animal keepers, failing to release its hold.

Emergency services were contacted immediately, and a coordinated response was undertaken to protect the keeper and ensure the safety of everyone at the park.

The keeper was successfully freed and transported to hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Despite the efforts of medical personnel, we are deeply saddened to confirm that our team member passed away in the early hours of Sunday, 6 September 2026.

Adventure Park extends its sincere appreciation to the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and St John Ambulance for their swift and professional response during the incident.

In the course of the rescue operation, and acting to protect human life, police euthanised the crocodile.

This was an extremely unexpected and tragic event, and Adventure Park is undertaking a full internal review to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The review will also examine and further strengthen existing safety protocols and procedures relating to crocodile management, animal handling and feeding demonstrations.

Adventure Park places the safety and wellbeing of its staff, visitors and the wider community at the highest priority.

As one of Papua New Guinea’s leading family, recreation and wildlife attractions, we remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, responsible animal management and visitor care.

At this difficult time, our deepest condolences are extended to the family, and colleagues of our team member.

He was a valued member of the Adventure Park Team and will be deeply missed.

Adventure Park asks the public and media to respect the privacy of the family and our staff as we come to terms with this tragic loss.

Further information will be provided as the internal review progresses.
